A Message for Parents
More than 10 million children have vision problems.
Vision disabilities often cause learning disabilities, poor academic performance, difficulty with sports and coordination, not to mention headaches and blurry vision. Poor self-image, being thought to be 'dumb' or 'lazy,' having problems with parents, teachers and other children ... these are common results of vision disabilities.
Typical vision tests only screen for a few isual skills such as distance acuity, (20/20 eyesight), periphereal vision & stereo vision and many important visual skill deficiencies are thus undiagnosed.
If your child is having a difficult time I urge you to make sure that he or she receives comprehensive vision screening to identify problems that may contribute to his or her inability to enjoy and succeed in the classroom, in sports activities and in day to day living. Many dysfunctions of the vision system can be successfully treated through vision therapy.
